Wind LiDAR solutions and measurement campaigns

Remote-sensing wind measurement for early-stage screening, hub-height and profile measurement, and supplementary campaigns that sit alongside met masts.

What we offer

From sourcing to data handover

Tyltar presents wind LiDAR services on an enquiry basis. Equipment availability, rental terms and specific products are confirmed per project.

Supply

Equipment supply and sourcing

Sourcing of wind LiDAR equipment to suit the campaign. Brands and models are discussed per enquiry.

Rental

Rental and leasing options

Rental and leasing enquiries welcomed. Availability and terms are confirmed in a written proposal.

Deploy

Deployment services

Campaign planning, site selection support, mobilisation, installation, commissioning and relocation.

Site

Power, communications, security

Off-grid power, communications, security and remote monitoring arrangements for unattended sites.

Operate

Operations and data

Operational checks, maintenance, technical support, data retrieval, quality-control coordination and reporting.

Integrate

Integration and advisers

Combination with met mast campaigns and coordination with independent wind resource specialists.

Where it is used

Where wind LiDAR fits

  • Early-stage wind resource screening
  • Measurement at proposed turbine hub heights
  • Wind profile and shear measurement
  • Temporary or supplementary measurement campaigns
  • Measurement while mast permissions are progressed, subject to site and deployment requirements
  • Support for longer-term resource assessment

Terms

What each term means

  • SaleTransfer of ownership of an instrument.
  • Rental or leaseUse of an instrument for a defined period under agreed terms.
  • DeploymentPlanning, installing, supporting and retrieving data from a campaign.
  • AnalysisResource assessment and uncertainty analysis, provided by independent advisers.

Met mast or LiDAR: how each one reaches a height

Move the line to a height across the rotor and compare how each approach captures the wind there.

Met mast and wind LiDAR: general comparison
ConsiderationMet mastWind LiDAR
Measurement approachInstruments mounted at fixed heights on a structure.Remote sensing of wind along a vertical profile from a ground-based unit.
DeploymentFoundations, anchors, erection and permissions are typically required.Smaller footprint, but site, access and permissions still apply.
MobilityFixed once installed; relocation is a major task.Designed to be relocated between sites, subject to campaign plans.
Power and communicationsLogger power and telemetry at the mast.Typically higher power demand; off-grid solutions need careful design.
MaintenanceSensor inspections, structural checks and callouts.Operational checks, power and data-link monitoring, instrument service.
Project suitabilityLong-term reference and direct instrument measurement.Screening, profile measurement and supplementary campaigns.

Wind LiDAR does not automatically replace a met mast, remove permitting requirements or guarantee lender acceptance. Acceptance depends on instrument verification, site conditions, data quality, uncertainty assessment and the requirements of technical advisers and financiers.

Questions

Wind LiDAR questions

Can wind LiDAR replace a met mast?

Not automatically. Some campaigns use LiDAR alone, others combine it with a mast. The right approach depends on terrain, atmospheric conditions, campaign objectives and what your technical adviser and financiers will accept.

Do you sell or rent wind LiDAR equipment?

Supply, rental, leasing and deployment-service enquiries are welcome. Availability and commercial terms are confirmed in a written proposal for each project.

Does LiDAR remove permitting requirements?

No. Land access, landowner agreements and any applicable approvals still need to be addressed, although requirements can differ from those for a mast.

Will lenders accept LiDAR data?

Acceptance is decided by lenders and their advisers and depends on instrument verification, site conditions, data quality and uncertainty assessment. Tyltar cannot guarantee it.

What do you need to scope a LiDAR campaign?

Site location, intended measurement heights, campaign duration, power and communications availability, required deployment date and whether a met mast is present or planned. Any item can be marked "not yet known".
